Description:
Nice close up of Northern Pacific 250 ton wrecker crane #45 working at an unidentified site. No date was given but with the black smoke pouring out it had to be before 1956 when the steam engine was replaced with a Caterpillar D-8 industrial engine in 1956. No location or photographer was listed either.

NP Wrecker Cranw #45 - Northern Pacific
Description:
It appears that Northern Pacific 250 ton wrecker crane might have been used here in maintenance of way rail replacement. The massive crane could easily handle lifting rails! No date, location or photographer was listed for this photo so approximate date and location was used. It is definitely before the steam engine was replaced by a Caterpillar D-8 industiral engine in 1956.

GN 4-8-4 #2582 - Great Northern
Description:
Nice roster shot of Great Northern 4-8-4 "Northern" type #3582. History - Built by Baldwin, 3/1930, According to several steam authorities, the S-2 class was used in dual service but best fit for fast passenger service. One note by Charles Wood states "Long winded engines, fast and durable, their only fault was a tendency to be very slippery when starting a heavy train." The class lasted into the 1950's and even a few into the early 1960's with several improvements along the way like Timken roller bearings in 1945. Specs - serial #61236, class S-2, oil burner, 80" drivers, 29 x 29 cylinders, a 225 psi boiler pressure, a weight of 420,900 lbs and a tractive effort of 58,300 pounds. No date, location or photographer was given for the photo.

NP 0-6-0 #1045 - Northern Pacific
Description:
Alco-Manchester built this cute little 0-6-0 yard switcher in May of 1906 as Northern Pacific #1045 (serial #39533). In September of 1957, the switcher was assigned to the Tacoma Divesion a year before it was retired. The loco served for nearly 52 years before meeting up with the scrapper's torch in July of 1958. The photo was taken by Gene Harsch. No date or location was listed for the photo so an "guess-timate" date and location was given for posting.

NP 0-6-0 #1123 - Northern Pacifiic
Description:
Alco-Pittsburgh built this little 0-6-0 yard goat in February of 1910 as Northern Pacific #1123 (serial #46913). I couldn't find any pertinent info on this loco and no final disposition is known right not but would assume it was scrapped sometime in the 1950's as most of the NP steam locos were. The photo was taken by Gene Harsch. No date or location was given so an "guess-timate" date and location were used.

NP 4-6-0 #1355 - Northern Pacific
Description:
This is an interesting face to face meeting between a ten wheeler steam locomotive and the younger upstart EMD diesel who is taking over. Baldwin built this 4-6-0 Vauclain compound ten wheeler in April of 1902 as Northern Pacific #1355 (serial #20308). It was simplified later and reclassified as S-4. After serving nearly 56 years, the loco was scrapped in November of 1958 at the South Tacoma Yard, Washingon. Since no date, location or photographer was listed for the photo, an approximate date and location were used.
