NP 4-6-6-4 #5140 - Northern Pacific         
This massive 4-6-6-4 Challenger type steam locomotive was built by Alco-Schenectady in January of 1943 as NP 5140 (serial #70154). The loco provided excellent power for long ore drags until it was retired and scrapped in September of 1959 at the Brainerd, MN, yard. Specs - 70" drivers, impressive 260 psi boiler pressure, four 23x32" cylinders, massive engine wt of 644,000 lb and impressive tractive force of 106,890 lb. The loco was converted to an oil burner sometime during its life. No date, location or photographer was given for the photo so an approximate date and location were used.
