KCS S12 1161
Title:  KCS S12 1161
Description:  Kansas City Southern S12 1161 at Kansas City, Kansas on August 15, 1965, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Number 1161 was built in April 1951 (c/n 75055), one of four Baldwin S12's delivered to the KCS (#'s 1160-1163). It has Milwaukee Road transfer caboose 01747 in tow, explained in comments to another photo of this situation: Jeff Carlson commented on 2/7/2012 8:18:37 AM; Interesting. Regarding the KCS-MILW combo, the two of them share Knoche Yard in KC, referring to it as the "Joint Agency." This agreement continues today with the KCS and CP (ICE). Chris Guss commented on 2/7/2012 6:32:13 PM; Knoche's Joint Agency term is just that. The locals based out of there use a mixture of crews and equipment on all jobs based in the terminal. Just like the equipment in your photo is mixed, the crew on board is also a mixture of KCS and MILW crewmembers.

MKT AS16M 138
Title:  MKT AS16M 138
Description:  Missouri–Kansas–Texas Railroad (reporting mark MKT) AS16M 138 at Kansas City, Kansas on August 15, 1965, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. This is a Baldwin AS16 built in October 1951 as MKT AS16 1583 (c/n 75435) and sent to EMD during 1959-60 for a new prime mover (567C) which required an EMD long hood. Although the EMD was rated at 1750 hp, it was downrated to accommodate to 1500 to work with the re-used Westinghouse electrical gear. This is the rear of the Engineer's side, the long hood was Forward. Unlike most diesel builder's hood locomotive designs this one had two cab doors to the rear. I would hope it had at least one door to the long hood deck, making it a three-door cab. I wonder if there are any four-door cabs?

Description:  Missouri–Kansas–Texas Railroad (reporting mark MKT) AS16M 138 at Kansas City, Kansas on August 15, 1965, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Built in October 1951 as MKT AS16 1583 (c/n 75435) it was sent to EMD during 1959-60 and re-powered (on EMD Order 8553) with a 567C prime mover and the Baldwin long hood replaced with a GP9 hood. The original Westinghouse electrical equipment was retained, thus this unit was rated at 1500 horsepower. This is the rear of the locomotive.

MP 922 & 995 (RS3)
Title:  MP 922 & 995 (RS3)
Description:  MP 992 & 995 - a pair of RS-3's are setting on the crest of the East Hump at Neff Yard, Kansas City, Missouri in March 1966. From the looks of the picture they must have been in hump service at the time. A current shot of the same location would look much the same with the exception of yellow SD38-2's (ex-MoPac SD40-2's) working the hump (thanks to former MP switchman Kevin Love for the info). - Lee Berglund photo/T.
