Title:
UP 4-10-2 #5094 - Union Pacific Overland
Description:
Battling a steep grade is the Alco-Brooks 4-10-2 #5094. Built in June of 1926 as Los Angeles & Salt Lake (LA&SL) #8803, it was rebuilt with two cylinders rather than the original three and renumbered 5094 when it entered the UP roster. Original specs - serial #66729, 63" drivers, 28x30" outside cylinders, 25X30 center cylinder, oil burner, engine weight of 4-5,700 lb, tractive effort of 72,400 lb.The loco was "vacated" in February of 1948. No location, date or photographer was given but the photo must have been taken after the 1942 renumbering and before retirement in 1948. Spencer T2D (see comment below) helped out with identifying the location as Mormon Rock at Cajun Pass, CA. Thanks Spencer for your help!
