Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #8259, an H-10S (2-8-0) "Consolidated" built by the American Locomotive Company during August of 1916 and retired in February of 1959 after 43 years of faithful service. Description:  East Altoona. Here is an original 35mm color slide that was taken in East Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1948. Prominent here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #8259, an H-10S (2-8-0) "Consolidated" built by the American Locomotive Company during August of 1916 and retired in February of 1959 after 43 years of faithful service. Partially visible at the left is the 17th Street Bridge in Juniata. The photographer's name and the exact date are not recorded.

Description:  Here is a photo which first appeared in an article by Philip W. Klaus, Jr., entitled "The Newtown Square Branch." It was published in the Winter 1986-1987 issue of "The High Line" magazine, page 7. Partial & Revised Caption: "Double-headed H's approach Baltimore Pike after entering Newtown Square Branch. H-10s No. 8259 is in the lead, with H-9S [#3097] as helper.... Photo by Don Kehl; June 10, 1949." Both locomotives are 2-8-0 "Consolidateds." #8259 is an H-10S built by the American Locomotive Company in August of 1916 and retired in February of 1959. #3097 is an H-9S "Consolidated" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an H-8B in December of 1910, rebuilt in Juniata as an H-9S in June of 1917, and retired in December of 1954.
