CBQ 2-6-2 #1949 - Chicago, Burlington & Quincy |
| Description: |
This photo of Chicago, Burlington & Quincy 2-6-2 #1949 makes it look like it's sitting in a scrap line but it served another 21 years before that happened. This Prairie type steam locomotive was built by Alco-Brooks in January of 1905 (serial #30405, class R-4). It was rebuilt in 1924 to the R-$-A class. After serving faithfully for nearly 48 years, the loco was retired in October of 1953 and presumedly scrapped afterward. Rebuilt specs - 69" drivers, 185 psi boiler pressure, 25x28" cylinders, engine wt of 212,500 lb and tractive force of 39,900 lb. The photo may have been taken by T.V. McGuire. |
