PRR GG1 #4882 - Pennsylvania RR
Title:  PRR GG1 #4882 - Pennsylvania RR
Description:  Somewhat an oddball locomotive in the NYC RR Museum is this massive Pennsylvania/PennCentral/Amtrak GG1 #4882. The loco is a significant piece of railroading history but doesn't fit the NYC legacy nor the Hoosier history so slightly out of place. Don't get me wrong - this is one of my all-time favorite locos so glad to have an example in Indiana!

PRR GG1 #4882 - Pennsylvania RR
Title:  PRR GG1 #4882 - Pennsylvania RR
Description:  The loco has seen better days when i photographed it in 2021. Haven't been back to see if it has been cosmetically restored yet. I would be extremely disappointed if it is allowed to rust away.

PRR GG1 #4882 - Pennsylvania RR
Title:  PRR GG1 #4882 - Pennsylvania RR
Description:  The loco was built by GE/PRR in 1939 and is known for its iconic strealined design by Raymond Loewy, pulling premier trains like the Broadway Limited for decades, serving Penn Central, Amtrak, and NJ Transit until retirement in 1983. With 4,620 horsepower and 12 motors, GG1s could reach speeds of 100+ mph, handling heavy passenger and freight duties on the Northeast Corridor.
