Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad 0-6-0 Class G-8 1719 at Kansas City, Missouri on August 7, 1935, photograph by Truman Boyd, Louis Zadnichek collection via Robert W. Johnston. Number 1719 was built by Baldwin August 1901 ( c/n 19495 ) as 2-6-2 Class R-2 1719, rebuilt in 1918 to an 0-6-0, retaining the 1719 road number, classed G-8, retired in May 1941. There appears to be pipes below the pilot beam pointing toward the track. Hol Wagner offers the following: They appear to be steam nozzles for clearing switches of ice and snow.
