Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by David R. Sweetland that was taken in Gallitzin, Pennsylvania, c. 1962. Shown here (L to R) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9601 and three more units whose road numbers are not recorded. All were built by the American Locomotive Company. #9601 is an AF-15 built in July of 1948, rated at 1,500 horsepower, and retired in December of 1963 after just 15 years of revenue service. In this context, this A-B-B-A set has just cleared the Allegheny Tunnel with a mixed-cargo freight train on its way to Conway Yard. ("LouisFols"; #1 of 37) |
