I think the trains run during the night on this branch. When I'm in the area, I rarely see any action. Traffic has been dwindling away over the past decades as businesses shut down along the way, especially in Fulton, NY. Although I heard from a friend last night that the ethanol facility where Miller Brewery once was is up and running.....I'll have to check it out! Looking north here from Great Bear Rd. The switch ahead is for the service track into the Owens-Brockway glass plant, which of course had been closed for quite some time by then. (date is an approximation) |

With their work done here at Birds Eye, the crew is getting ready to head back to the small yard in Baldwinsville. This track used to go further north and into Oswego, but not anymore. You might notice in the background behind the train, that the road has been paved right over the tracks. In fact, the rail was never lifted, it's still there all the way to Oswego. You just have to look through the weeds and trees to find it. Also, at several crossings along the way, old cross-buck signals are still in place even though the road is paved over the tracks! |
