MILW 2-6-2 #901 - Milwaukee Road
Title:  MILW 2-6-2 #901 - Milwaukee Road
Description:  Built by ALCO-Brooks in October of 1907, it originally carried the CM&StP #1904. In 1912, it was renumbered CMStP #5004 and again as CMStPP (MILW) #5004. Finally in 1938, it was renumbered one more time to MILW #901. After nearly 46 years of service the loco was retired and scrapped in February of 1953. Specs - 63" drivers, 185 psi boiler pressure, 21 1/2x 28" cylinders, engine wt of 209,000 lb, tractive effort of 32,310 lb. Arthur B. Johnson photo

Description:  Originally built as CM&StP #8637 by Alco-Brooks in October of 1918, it was renumbered in 1938 to MILW 343 as seen here in Nahant, IA. The loco was retired in March of 1953 after nearly 35 years of service.. Description:  Somewhat spattered by steam exhaust stains, this 2-8-2 Mikado was originally built by Alco-Schenectady in March of 1919 as CM&StP 8674. It was later renumbered in 1938 to MILW 312. The loco was retired in April of 1955 after nearly 35 years of service. Specs - L3 class, 63" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 27x32" cylinders, engine wt of 331,335 lb and tractive effort of 74,469 with booster. This is a Guhr photo.

Description:  Milwaukee Road GP20 972 at West Nahant, Iowa on August 8, 1982, Kodachrome by Gib Allbach, Chuck Zeiler collection. Number 972 was built in May 1956 as GP9 254 (c/n 21206), rebuilt ijn October 1972 as GP20 972. The GP20 designation is a bit mis-leading; an EMD GP20 was powered by a 16-567D2 turbocharged prime mover, whereas a MILW GP20 was powered with a non-turbocharged 16-645E prime mover, same as EMD's GP38. All produced 2000 horsepower.
