Description:  The southbound trip from Binghamton stopped at Hallstead for the locals. During the stop, I was able to get a shot of the engine crew. The engineer is legendary D&H man Bernie OBrien, looking for all the world like its 1948. This is the same man who has his name on the side of D&H 7312.

Description:  Train 166 rolls south near Hallstead on the ex DLW. Note the yellow sign pointing off to the left. The D&H used these to indicate an upcoming grade crossing or other obstruction, the purpose being to warn plow operators to raise the plow blade to avoid damage to the plow(and a possible derailment) or to track structures. These are all over the D&H proper, and now on the ex DLW too, though this one has probably been there 20 years by now.

Description:  Train 164 is now clear of the Binghamton terminal, and getting a move on southbound. We see him along the local road that becomes NY 7A when it crosses into NY. Here, its just another rough road in PA. Hopefully the 164 has a smoother ride than I will.

Description:  40T, today with a pair of NS units, an unusual circumstance for this train, crests the short, steep pull south of Hallstead. The DLW once had a "low grade" here that freights used. The 24 cars on todays train will not tax the power much, though bigger trains really work here.
