PRR 373, HH-1, 1947
Description:
Coal Power. Here is an original photo by an unidentified photographer that was taken in Columbus, Ohio, on 10 October 1947. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #373, an HH-1 (2-8-8-2) built by the American Locomotive Company as Norfolk & Western Railroad number "2000" during February of 1919, sold to the PRR and renumbered "373" in July of 1943, and retired in November of 1947 after 28 years of two-system service. This locomotive may have been involved in a wreck: the front of the smoke box is gone, as is part of the left cylinder assembly, and the pilot steps are bent back.
