Description:  There are about 6 different Bethel's listed in North Carolina, but I think that Pitt County should be the proper one - Bethel is 13 miles north of Greenville, NC - there are two CSX lines (both former ACL) - one continues east to Plymouth (ending a bit east of Plymouth today) - other goes south to Kinston.

Great Mural

Description:  I think this is a representation of a Southern 4-6-2 like in the National Museum of American History in Washington - of course, while one of the prettiest steam locomotives, a bit out of place here - accross Railroad Street from this building are former ACL Tracks. I think that the number "97" on the locomotive is based on the song "The Wreck of the Ol' 97" - of course, that is also a bit historically dubious - as the mural in Danville, VA shows, 97 was the train number (Danville was where that accident happened - also the number seems to point that the artists wished to represent a Southern locomotive - as the song shows, train 97 was the fast mail from Washington to Atlanta - going down a mighty fine grade from Lynchburg to Danville and watch Old 97 Roll.
