Viewing Album: PRR: "World's Largest Freight Car" ~ August 1952
By:
Thomas C. Ayers
Dates:
8/4/1952 - 8/4/1952
Album Info:
Here is a two-page article entitled "The World's Largest Freight Car." It was published originally in the August 1952 issue of "Pennsy" magazine, pages 14-15. No author is specified. "The largest freight car in the world grew out of a question from the Central Region to General Offices. The question was: 'Can the PRR design and build a car with a 27-foot loading platform to carry a load of 500,000 pounds?'" (Page 14) This car is currently on exhibit at the Railroaders Memorial Museum in Altoona, Pennsylvania.
